New touchscreen airport kiosk features facial recognition
Dortmund, Germany-based Materna ips launched its new Phoenix airport check-in kiosk at this week's Passenger Terminal Expo in Barcelona.
The Phoenix touchscreen kiosks can be fitted with built-in cameras and biometric facial recognition features, the company said. When a passenger checks in at the kiosk, the camera takes a photo which is checked against the passenger's passport photo, and can also be used for self-boarding.
Other features offered by Phoenix include a paper supply which is sufficient to print up to 4,000 boarding passes and 600 bag tags. Materna said Phoenix can be fitted with an optional payment function, equipping it for automatic check-in of both passengers and baggage.
In addition to supplying check-in kiosks and self-boarding terminals, Materna also offers kiosk maintenance services at airports, the company said.
